Ben Schachter, analyst at Broadpoint Amtech has said that the downloadable content for Modern Warfare 2 alone could generate $140 million in revenue for Activision.
As with the last two Call of Duty titles, the game itself should maintain its £50 launch price until the next version hits the shops, but Activision will also benefit from the high-margin downloadable content potential enabled by MW2's success.
I estimate that Activison will generate at least $140 million in gross revenue from Call of Duty downloadable content in 2010. Though Activision has not announced anything yet, I would not be surprised to see the content expand significantly beyond simple map packs to include new missions, modes of play, and in-game items. I guess the point is that most of Call of Dutys fan base will pay for additional content, and we expect Infinity Ward to monetize that throughout 2010.
I will keep you all updated as it happens
